Flutter - licence ================= Flutter is a run-and-gun game by mit-mit, made for PyWeek 29 (September 2019, theme "The Butterfly Effect"). This site serves the original entry from the PyWeek archive: https://s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/media.pyweek.org/29/mit-mit-29/flutter_pyweek29.zip sha256 5dff42de4f17150cc239f85425c7c5f358c5b0b71b7ac5503cf8153ff8093937 (entry page: https://pyweek.org/e/mit-mit-29/; retrieved 2026-11-04) The licence sentence in the README of that zip reads, exactly: "Licence: All of the artwork and code for this game (excepting those listed below) is CC0 (free to use in whatever manner you see fit, attribution not required)" The exceptions it lists, reproduced in the README below, are: the font "Mechfire" by Pixel Sagas ("Freeware licence"; NOT used here, see below) and two CC0 sounds, "Wet Splat" by JustInvoke (https://freesound.org/people/JustInvoke/sounds/446115/) and "Squeaky Rat" by qubodup (http://opengameart.org/content/squeaky-rat). Replacement of the Mechfire lettering: the game has no font file; all its text is baked into PNG pictures, typeset in Mechfire. A "freeware" label does not grant redistribution rights, so this site does not serve those pictures: the title, the victory screen, the three story slides, "game over", "continue?", the two control hints, the pick-up labels ("+20 HEALTH", "HEALTH", "+ WEAPON UP"), the "BOSS" label and the four door numbers (17 images) were redrawn with Press Start 2P, Copyright 2012 The Press Start 2P Project Authors (cody@zone38.net), under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 (https://openfontlicense.org), taken from https://github.com/google/fonts at commit 9862abc066c9b83bf84c3e8ed1fc2d8d48f9bbf0. The text of the story slides was transcribed from the original pictures (it is the background story of the README). The font file is not part of the game (only the rendered letters), and the images and the script that draws them are published with the other sources. The OFL text is reproduced at the end of this file. Everything that is not lettering is unchanged, and the new images are released under CC0 like the rest of the artwork. What this site serves: the flutter.pgapp built by Builds/build-flutter.sh from that zip, with the change published as web.patch next to the source: the main loop became asynchronous (a pygbag requirement) and the game's main.py became src/fl_main.py; plus the redrawn images. The game saves nothing. No other artwork, sound or music was altered. The game runs on pygame-ce (LGPL-2.1) and CPython 3.12 compiled by the pygbag project; their licences and source are on the site's Licenses page. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ README.txt (from the game) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ================= “Flutter“ ================= PyWeek 29 Entry for theme “The Butterfly Effect” (https://pyweek.org/29/) Solo entry by mit-mit ============= Requirements: ============= Python 3 (tested on 3.7.5): http://www.python.org/ Pygame 1.9.6+: http://www.pygame.org/ ================= Running the game: ================= Open a terminal/console/shell, "cd" to the game directory and run the command python run_game.py ================ Playing the game ================ Background Story: Metamorphosis. The wonder of nature. A creature alters its own body to adapt to its new existence, a new stage of life. We sought to harness that power, to use our modern medical science and human ingenuity to extract from nature that essence for our own needs. It was meant to be a great leap for humankind, the next big step in our evolution. What fools we were. At Lepidoptech Research Labs we worked for years: countless experiments, genetic engineering of caterpillars and butterfly: we bred super insects, and extracted from them the chemical components we needed. We nicknamed the drug we would develop "the butterfly effect". We were on the eve of perfecting the formula. I still remember the day it all went horribly wrong. The Game: A run and gun action game where you play a lab technician trying to escape from a research facility after genetically-mutated butterflies escape. Controls: Use the ASDW to run and mouse to aim and shoot. ======= Credits ======= Game Design/Programming/Artwork/Music: mit-mit Licence: All of the artwork and code for this game (excepting those listed below) is CC0 (free to use in whatever manner you see fit, attribution not required) Other content of the game was plundered from various open sources: Fonts: "Mechfire" by Pixel Sagas (Freeware licence) https://www.fontspace.com/mechfire-font-f22046 Sounds: "Wet Splat" by JustInvoke (CC0) https://freesound.org/people/JustInvoke/sounds/446115/ "Squeaky Rat" by qubodup (CC0) qubodupSqueakyRatAttack.ogg http://opengameart.org/content/squeaky-rat ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SIL Open Font License 1.1 (fonts/pressstart2p/OFL.txt) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Copyright 2012 The Press Start 2P Project Authors (cody@zone38.net), with Reserved Font Name "Press Start 2P".
