About the game

1x111, read "one times one-one-one", is a collection of 111 mini-games that all use the same single button, and a way of playing them one after another in a hurry. Press Play and five of the games you have unlocked are picked at random. Each lasts eleven seconds and has its own target score, shown at the top of its screen. Reach the target before the time is up, or before you crash, and you win a star. Miss it and you lose that round, but the next game starts straight away.

What the button does is different in every game, and each one tells you in a couple of words at the top of its screen: tap to jump, hold to charge, release to throw, and so on. In some games holding it down and letting go matter as much as pressing. Because there is no time to read, the best way is to press and see what happens.

You start with eleven games open. Every five stars unlock one more, so the menu, a grid of small pictures, slowly fills with colour. The mode buttons at the top right choose Normal, Hard or Expert, which differ in difficulty and in how many stars a win is worth, or Endless, which keeps picking games from the unlocked ones until your stars run out. In the menu you can also ban a game you do not like from the draw, or open them all again. The games come from the author's other one-button collections, and several of them can also be played here on their own: Arcfire, Flip O, Ladder Drop and others. Your stars and unlocked games are kept in your browser. There are no image or sound files: the graphics are drawn by the code, and the sound effects and music are generated while you play.

Playing it here

Click Play, then press Play inside the game, or any key other than the arrows, to start a round. Nothing is installed or sent anywhere. Your progress stays in your browser, and "Reset Game" at the bottom of the menu wipes it.

A few things worth knowing

Read the top line first. Every game says in a few words what the button does.

Try a game before you ban it. A few feel odd at first and are fun once you know what the button does.

Stars unlock the rest. Hard and Expert pay more stars per win, so they open the later games sooner.

Credits and licence

1x111 was made by Kenta Cho (ABA Games) and published under the MIT licence in the 1x111 repository. The app is built with React, and it carries the crisp-game-lib and sounds-some-sounds libraries that the author writes, plus a few small open-source ones for the interface. The licence texts of the game and of everything that comes with it are linked from this page. The game files are served as published, with only the starting page changed so that the sound library comes from this site and nothing is loaded from other sites.
