About the game

Adventures of Robbo sends a small robot across sixty planets in fifteen planetary systems. On each planet Robbo has to collect a set number of bolts, which brings the teleport to the next one back to life.

The planets are packed with things that make that harder: creatures that patrol set routes, guns that fire across corridors, crates that can be pushed but not pulled, doors that need keys and bombs that clear the way at a price. Robbo can shoot back, but only after collecting batteries to power the gun, so every shot is a small decision.

It mixes quick reactions with planning, and it is demanding by modern standards. The authors knew it, and left a cheat in the game for anyone who wants to see the later systems.

Playing it here

This is the 2006 release, rebuilt by one of its authors to run in DOSBox. Click Play now, wait for the title screen and press Space to start.

Controls

Key Action
Arrow keys move; push an object that has free space behind it
Space, then an arrow key fire in that direction (needs batteries)
Esc restart the planet, losing one life
F3 (title screen) enter a system code to resume
Left Shift + 1 to 4 choose the soundtrack
F1 sound effects on or off
F10 back to the title screen

A few things worth knowing

Write down the system code. A new code appears on the status bar every four planets. Enter it with F3 on the title screen to start from there next time.

Save your batteries. Ammunition is scarce. Clearing a path by pushing or waiting is usually cheaper than shooting.

The authors' cheat. Type FRONT242 on the title screen. System codes become LEVELA to LEVELO, and the Tab key jumps straight to the next planet.
