About the game

You have just been hired by Cargo Trek, a small company that delivers goods between the towns of Arcadian Valley. A friendly email from your boss, Bob, welcomes you aboard, tells you that your job makes a difference, and adds that your truck can handle rough terrain, so do not hesitate to drive off the road.

The game is a small management and exploration sim. The map is generated, and at first you see only the area around you. Towns ask for deliveries, you load cargo into the truck's limited space and drive it there. The truck is battery-electric, so charging is part of the job: you charge at the chargers you find in the world, or while you stay in a town. Each delivery pays, and the money buys upgrades, from a bigger battery to more room in the cargo bay. The first thing you learn is that the shortest line on the map is not always the best route.

It was made in 48 hours for Ludum Dare 54, whose theme was "Limited space", with the author's own small framework, ponczek.

Playing it here

The game runs in the page. It needs a keyboard and a mouse, and it saves your game in your browser's local storage, so the menu has "Load game" next to "New game". There is also a "How to play" screen. The download is about 1 MB, mostly the music.

Pick New game, read the welcome letter and press Enter, and you land on the map.

Controls

Input Action
W A S D scroll the map
Left mouse button (hold) drive the truck towards the cursor
E enter a town, or charge at a charger
Q centre the view on the truck
W A S D, Enter, Escape move, confirm and go back in menus

Tips

Watch the battery. Driving drains it, and the percentage is always in the corner of the screen. Plan a route that passes a charger before it gets low.

Roads are faster, but you do not have to stay on them. The truck can leave the road, which can save time when the road bends a lot.

Fit what you can carry. Cargo space is limited, so choose deliveries that fit together and pay well.

Credits and licence

Cargo Trek was made by Deseteral for Ludum Dare 54 and released under the MIT licence, as is ponczek, the author's game framework, which comes with it. The framework's default font is Monogram by datagoblin (CC0). The licence texts, the source of the game and of the framework, and the build script are linked from this page.
