About the game

Don Ceferino is an Argentine gaucho who lives quietly on his farm, drinking mate with his cow. One day the newspaper says aliens are invading the Earth, and that night a flying saucer takes his only cow. Don Ceferino picks up his knife and goes after them.

The game plays like the arcade classic Pang. Big green balls bounce around each level, and Don Ceferino can only attack straight up: he throws his knife on a rope, and a ball it hits splits into two smaller ones, until the smallest ones disappear. If a ball touches him he loses a life, and each level has to be cleared before the timer at the bottom of the screen runs out. Ladders, platforms and blocks make the later levels trickier.

Some balls leave an item behind when they burst: a bomb that splits every ball on the screen, a knife that lets you throw one more at a time, a trident that changes your shot, and a clock that freezes the balls for a moment. There are 30 levels, an ending and a high score table.

The game was made in Argentina by Hugo Ruscitti (programming) and Walter Velazquez (graphics and story), with music by Javier Da Silva, under the Losers Juegos name.

This is the latest version from the game's repository (revision 37, after version 0.97.8), compiled for the browser from the source package kept by Debian, since the authors' site is gone. The download is about 4 MB, and your high scores stay in this browser. The game is in English, and some labels drawn in the pictures, like the time and score at the bottom, are in Spanish.

Tips

Split balls where you can handle them. Every hit makes two smaller balls that bounce lower and faster; pop the big ones near the middle of the screen, not right above you.

Clear the small ones fast. The smallest balls are the hardest to dodge but disappear with one hit, so finish them before they spread out.

Roll out of trouble. The roll moves Don Ceferino quickly along the ground and is the best way to get out from under a falling ball.

Grab the items. The clock buys you time, and the extra knife lets you keep two shots in the air.
