About the game
This page has two things in one: a complete game of chess and a puzzle trainer. The game follows the full rules, including castling, en passant and promotion, with no clock. You can play an AI at three levels, or sit with a friend at the same screen. The puzzle mode serves 600 positions in which one side has a winning idea, such as a mate in two or a won piece, and your task is to find it.
The puzzle positions come from the Lichess puzzle database, which is released under CC0. The rest is one of a set of small games written by the author of Chogan with the help of AI tools; the board is drawn by the code and the sounds are generated while you play.
Playing it here
Click Play, then choose Versus AI, Two players or Puzzles. To move, tap a piece to see where it can go and tap the target square, or drag the piece. The board turns to the next player after every move in two-player games; the rotate button switches that off. In puzzle mode each puzzle says who is to move and what to look for, such as a mate in two.

A few things worth knowing
Look at checks, captures and threats first. Most puzzles start with a forcing move.
Use undo to learn. Try an idea against the AI, then take it back.
Pick the level that suits you. The easiest AI is gentle.
Credits and licence
Chess Puzzles is part of Chogan by Chogan (choganhq), published under the MIT licence. The repository was written with the help of AI, and this page says so openly. Everything is drawn by the code and the sounds are generated on the fly; the only font is Vazirmatn (SIL Open Font License 1.1). The 600 puzzle positions come from the Lichess puzzle database (CC0). The licence texts are linked from this page. We took out the app shell: this game opens on its own, with no app menu, sharing or league points, the language follows the site's (the Portuguese was translated by us) and nothing is requested from other sites.
