About the game
Dungeons of Noudar 3D is a dungeon crawler built the way they were built for the PCs of the early 1990s: a first-person view of stone corridors and grassy courtyards, rendered in 3D in VGA's 256 colours, with the whole game small enough to fit on a single 1.44 MB floppy disk.
You play a former priest and crusader sent to a sacred citadel that is once again falling into demonic hands. The journey is split into chapters, each opened by a short passage of text: the citadel itself, a monastery, a graveyard by a lake of lava and further down from there, until the last confrontation. The writing is sombre and a little mystical, closer to a medieval sermon than to an action game.
Under the 3D view there is a roguelike. The world is a grid, and the monsters move when you move, so every step is a decision rather than a reflex. Your health is your faith, shown on the right-hand panel along with the item in your hand and the direction you are facing. Weapons, a crossbow, a shield and other relics lie around the levels, and choosing what to hold matters as much as where to go.
The game began as a text-mode roguelike and an Android VR experiment before its author rebuilt it for real DOS machines in 2018. This is version 1.2, from 2022.

A few things worth knowing
Every move is a turn. Nothing happens while you stand still, so take the time to look around before walking into a room.
Watch your faith. It is your health. When it runs out, the journey ends.
Use the right item. Space uses whatever you are holding, so switch to the weapon before a fight and to the other relics when the level asks for them.
Esc really quits. The title screen jokes about it, but it closes the game instead of opening a menu.
Credits and licence
