About the game
Fantasy Rampage is a quick card game of monsters and territory. The deck has 48 cards in four elements, earth, water, fire and air, each card showing a creature with a power from 4 to 9. You hold a hand of five, drawing a new card at the start of each round while the deck lasts.
A game is 24 rounds, one for each area on the map. In every round the winner of the last one leads with a card, the other player answers, and the higher power takes the area; a tie goes to whoever won the round before. When all 24 areas are claimed, the player who holds more of them wins.
The Advanced mode adds two twists. Each round one element is boosted and its cards gain a point of power. Some cards also carry an ability, such as Toxic, Burn, Spear or Magic, that weakens an opposing card of a different element by one or two points. When you draw a card in this mode, a panel next to it explains its power and ability.
You can play against the computer, which leads with its strongest card and answers with the weakest card that still wins, or against a friend: in two-player mode the game asks you to pass the Arduboy over between turns, so neither of you sees the other's hand.
Playing it here
This is a homebrew game made for the Arduboy, the open, credit-card-sized handheld with a tiny black-and-white screen: a new game by independent developers, not a commercial release. It runs here in Ardens, an Arduboy emulator. Click Play now, choose PLAY on the title menu, then the Basic or Advanced game and one or two players. For two players, share the keyboard or a gamepad and look away when it is not your turn.
The game does not keep scores between sessions; only the sound setting is stored, in the emulated memory of the Arduboy that this browser keeps automatically. F2 saves the complete state of the game at any moment, and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too.
This build comes from the Team-ARG-Museum archive, which removed a QR code that pointed to the team's old website, now gone. That code was all the HELP screen showed, so HELP is now empty: the rules are above and the controls below.

A few things worth knowing
Don't waste your nines. When you answer, you only need to beat the card on the table. Win with the smallest card that does it, and save the big ones for leading.
Leading is an advantage. Ties go to the last winner, so a string of wins keeps you in control of the table.
Watch the boost in Advanced. The boosted element changes every round, and a 6 of the right element can beat a 6 of the wrong one before abilities are even counted.
