About the game
Fire of Rebellion starts with a short introduction about the kingdom of Gorak, whose throne has been taken by a lord of darkness. Fearing revenge from other mages, he has had every spell-caster locked up in a prison called Tormenta. One of the prisoners is a young mage who, after an accident with one of his own spells, has seen the usurper's crime. Escaping Tormenta to reveal the truth looks impossible, but a rebellion has just broken out, and that may change his fate.
You then play that mage from above, in the style of the classic action adventures: a prison made of rooms, patrolling guards, fire and doors that need keys. Your magic does not work while you are locked in the cell, so the first task is to get out; once you do, fireballs become available, and later you may find a ring that makes you invisible for a few seconds. Both use up your power, which is shown at the bottom of the screen together with your lives.
The game is in Brazilian Portuguese only. All the dialogue and menus are in Portuguese, and there is no option to change the language. The controls are simple enough to try it anyway, but the story will make more sense if you read the language.
Playing it here
This is a homebrew game made for the NES: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It was made by a small team during Jogabilijam 4, a Brazilian game jam, and it uses the MMC3 chip that many late NES cartridges had. It runs here in jsnes, an NES emulator written in JavaScript. Click Play, then press Enter on the title screen ("Aperte Start").
F2 saves the current state of the game in this browser and F4 brings it back. A gamepad also works.

A few things worth knowing
Talk before you go. The first scene is a conversation through the bars that gets you the key to your cell and explains why you are being freed.
Fire costs power. Each fireball spends one point of power and the ring costs five, so use them where they matter instead of on every guard.
Read the rooms. Some rooms are heavily patrolled and are meant to be crossed invisible, as the character himself remarks on seeing one.
