Gem Swap

About the game

The board is a grid of coloured, shaped gems: circles, hearts, stars, crosses, diamonds, triangles and lightning bolts. Swap two neighbouring gems so that three or more of the same kind line up in a row or column and they disappear, the gems above fall into the gap and new ones drop in from the top.

The fun is in the cascades. A well-chosen swap near the bottom can knock a whole stack of gems into new matches, each one scoring more than the last. The game shows your score and keeps your best.

A few things worth knowing

Work from the bottom. Matches low on the board shake the most gems loose and set off chains.

Look for four and five. Longer lines score more than the minimum three.

Think one move ahead. Check what will fall into place before you swap.

Credits and licence

Gem Swap is one of the games in LittleJS Arcade, a collection by Frank Force built on his open-source LittleJS engine and released under the MIT licence. The pictures are drawn in code and the sounds are synthesised, so the game has no image or audio files. The author's repository includes AI-assistant guidance files, so the collection was written with the help of AI tools. The licence text is linked from this page and the source code is on GitHub.
