About the game
For a long time Gigant watched the humans from behind the forest, too embarrassed to say hello. Now the humans are everywhere, the water smells bad and the fish are gone, and Gigant is hungry and curious. The way to meet them, it turns out, is to play their strange game of golf.
In Gigant Golf you play the giant, and your ball is a boulder. Each course is a landscape of hills and valleys with a few small houses, towers and buildings scattered over it. Aim your shot, launch it, and watch the boulder roll and bounce down the slope, flattening whatever is in the way. The goal is to wipe out every target in as few shots as possible. Each course shows its par and remembers your best result, and there are six of them, from a gentle first level called "Emerge'n'see" to a ship battle and a finale.
The author, who goes by quinnyo, describes it as a cross between a monster rampage and a golf simulator, made in a hurry with no earlier experience in Game Boy assembly, and says that some of each is missing and that the collisions are simulated "poorly". That honesty is part of its charm, and it is quite fun to fling a rock at a village.
Playing it here
This is a homebrew game made for the Game Boy: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in binjgb, a Game Boy emulator compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play and press Enter at the title.
The cartridge keeps your best results in its battery memory, stored in this browser. The game has no sound effects, only music. F2 saves the current state of the emulator and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too.
Controls
| Key | Game Boy button | Action |
|---|---|---|

| Enter | Start | start, pause |
| Shift or Ctrl | Select | leave a paused course |
| F2 / F4 | — | save / load the emulator state |
A few things worth knowing
Look at the slope. The boulder follows the terrain, so a hill in front of you can bounce it back.
Count your shots. The status bar at the bottom shows the shot number and how many targets are left; matching the par is the real goal.
Pick any course. The menu lets you go back to a course you have cleared and improve your best.
