About the game

Hokm is a trick-taking card game from Iran, played by four people in two teams, with your partner sitting across the table. One player, the hakem, looks at the first five cards of the deal, names the trump suit and leads the first trick. Everyone must follow the suit led, and a player with none of it may play any card, including a trump, which beats everything else. A team wins the hand with seven tricks; taking all seven is a kot, which is worth more.

You play with an AI partner against two AI rivals, in a match to a set number of hands, and a daily deal is the same for everybody. It is one of a set of small card games written by the author of Chogan with the help of AI tools; the cards are drawn by the code and the sounds are generated while you play.

Playing it here

Click Play and start a match. When you are the hakem, pick the trump suit after seeing your first five cards. On your turn, click or tap the card you want to play; cards that do not follow suit are blocked if you have the suit. Your team takes a trick when your card or your partner's is the best on the table. The rules and a short tutorial are inside the game.

A few things worth knowing

Pick trump from your long suit. Five cards are enough to see where your strength is.

Count the trumps. Knowing what is still out lets you play your high cards safely.

Help your partner. Do not beat a trick your partner has already won.

Everything is drawn by the code and the sounds are generated on the fly; the only font is Vazirmatn (SIL Open Font License 1.1). The licence texts are linked from this page. We took out the app shell: this game opens on its own, with no app menu, sharing or league points, the language follows the site's (the Portuguese was translated by us) and nothing is requested from other sites.
