About the game
Land on My Base (and Tell Me That You Love Me), to give it its full name, is a tribute to the lunar lander games. Your craft hangs above the surface, and you have to bring it down onto a landing pad that is only just big enough for it. Touch down too fast, or miss the pad, and the landing fails.
The physics is gently realistic: gravity pulls you down, and a "solar wind" pushes you to the left or right. Both change from level to level. A small marker next to the craft shows where the thrust comes from, and you rotate it with the D-pad before firing the engine.
Each level shows a code you can type in later to continue from there, and the game also remembers your progress on the cartridge, with a Continue option on the title menu. It was made for the SMS Power! coding competition in 2024.
Playing it here
This is a homebrew game made for the Master System: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in Gearsystem, a Master System emulator compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play now and choose "Start new game" on the menu; "Instructions" sums up the controls.
Your progress is kept in this browser like a cartridge save. F2 saves the full state of the emulator in this browser and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too.
Controls
| Key | Master System button | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Left / Right | D-pad | rotate the direction of the thrust |
| Z / X | Button 1 / 2 | fire the engine; confirm in the menu |
| Up / Down | D-pad | choose in the menu; change letters of a level code |
| F2 / F4 | — | save / load the emulator state |
A few things worth knowing
Read the marker. When it sits directly under the craft, thrust pushes straight up; when it is to one side, thrust pushes you sideways.
Fight the wind early. It is easier to cancel the drift high up than to correct it just above the pad.
Try the options. The menu has a difficulty setting and can invert the left and right controls.
