About the game
Minesweeper MD brings the well-known mine-hunting puzzle to the Mega Drive. The board starts covered. Uncover a tile and it either hides a mine, which ends the game, or shows a number: how many of the eight tiles around it hide mines. From those numbers you work out which tiles are safe, flag the ones that must be mines and clear the rest of the board.
There are three ready-made difficulties: Easy (a 9 by 9 grid with 10 mines), Normal (16 by 16 with 40) and Expert (30 by 16 with 99). A Custom setting lets you choose the width (up to 38), the height (up to 22) and the number of mines. The game keeps a leaderboard with the three best times for each difficulty.
Playing it here
This is a homebrew game made for the Mega Drive: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in ClownMDEmu, a Mega Drive emulator compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play now, choose a difficulty in the menu and start the game.
The leaderboard is stored in the cartridge's battery memory, which this site keeps in your browser automatically. F2 also saves the full state of the emulator and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too.

A few things worth knowing
Start from the numbers. A 1 next to a single covered tile means that tile is a mine. Most of the board unravels from deductions like that.
Clearing around a number saves time. When a number already has as many flags around it as it says, X (or Z and C together) uncovers all its other neighbours at once. A wrong flag makes it explode, though.
Resetting the settings keeps your times. The menu's Reset Settings option puts every option back to its default without touching the leaderboard.
