Miniplanets REMIX

About the game

Miniplanets is a platformer where every stage is a small planet. The ground curves away in every direction, so walking far enough in a straight line brings you back to where you started, and the horizon hides whatever is on the other side.

You play as Qisha, out to rescue her children, who were turned to stone across the Planelago System. Each planet hides crystals (or keys, in some stages); once all of them are collected, the petrified child can be freed and the stage is cleared. Holes, moving hazards, springs, switches and rafts get in the way, and every group of planets ends with a boss.

This is the REMIX edition (revision 04), a 2022 overhaul of the 2016 game with more detailed planets, new music and sound effects, a secret extra set of stages, a continue screen and an attract mode.

Playing it here

This is a homebrew game made for the Mega Drive: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in ClownMDEmu, a Mega Drive emulator compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play now and press Enter on the title screen to start.

The game has no battery save; instead, from the second planelago on, it shows a password you can type in later from the title screen's Password option. F2 also saves the full state of the emulator in this browser and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too.

Controls

Key Mega Drive button Action
Arrow keys D-pad walk around the planet; choose menu options
Z / X / C A / B / C jump
Enter Start start; pause and resume
Z + X + C, then Enter A + B + C + Start while paused: reset the game
F2 / F4 — save / load the emulator state

A few things worth knowing

The planet is round. If something seems out of reach, keep walking: the path often loops around to the other side of the planet.

Check the HUD. It shows whether the current stage asks for crystals or for keys, and how many are left.

Write the passwords down. They are the only way to continue later from a later planelago without using F2.

Wait on the title screen for a few seconds to watch the attract mode demo.
