About the game

Ms Snake slithers across the screen without stopping, and you decide where she turns. Each piece of food she eats makes her longer and adds a point to the score, so the field gets more crowded the better you play. Crashing ends the game, and the best score of the session is shown on the title screen.

The game was written in batari Basic by Daniele Olmisani, Luca Olmisani and Maria Segnalini, and it runs on a 32 KB cartridge with extra RAM, which leaves room for a large animated title screen.

Playing it here

This is a homebrew game made for the Atari 2600: a new game by independent developers for the 1977 console, not a commercial release. It runs here in Stellerator, an Atari 2600 emulator written in JavaScript. Click Play now, then press Space or Enter on the title screen.

There are no save states on this platform: like on the real console, a game lasts as long as you keep playing, and P pauses it. A gamepad works too.

Controls

Key Atari 2600 Action

A few things worth knowing

The high score is for this session. The best score appears on the title screen and is reset when the console is switched off, which here means closing the page.

Turn early. The snake keeps moving at a steady pace; pressing a direction a little ahead of time is the easiest way to get through tight spaces.

Black and white means PAL60. The console's TV Type switch selects the PAL60 colors on the real hardware; on this page the game runs in NTSC.
