About the game
Musa's Quest is a small medieval adventure about a present. The king calls you to his side and says he needs a special gift for your mother, something that does not exist anywhere in his kingdom, something precious. He sends his guard, Bamidele, along for protection and for company, and the two of you start asking around the market for ideas. Before long somebody tells you about a very thin, very smooth cloth called silk, sold in a city far away.
The game is told in short scenes drawn in flat, warm vector shapes: the throne, the market stalls, the desert. You talk to people, look at what is around you and use things you find, and now and then a little job gets in the way, like digging up rock with a click. The text is brief and gently funny, and a run through the whole adventure does not take long.
Markus Fisch made it for js13kGames 2023, where the entire game had to fit in 13 kilobytes once zipped. The theme that year was "13th Century".
Playing it here
This is the build submitted to the competition, unchanged. Click Play, then click on the people in the first scene to start talking. A bar at the bottom of the screen names whatever is under the pointer. Nothing is saved, so plan to play it in one sitting.
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Move the mouse | show the name of what is under the pointer |
| Click | use it, pick it up or talk to someone |
| Click during a conversation | go on to the next line or choose what to say |
| Touch: hold and slide | explore the scene |
| Touch: lift the finger | use what is under it |
A few things worth knowing
Talk to everybody twice. People often have something new to say after you have learned something elsewhere.
Check the bar at the bottom. If it shows a name, the thing under the pointer can be used. If it stays empty, keep looking.
Take the small jobs seriously. When a scene turns into a click-to-work task, the buttons tell you what to do first.
