About the game
Nikwi is a nine-year-old boy whose dream has come true: he is living inside a world made of sweets. Every level is a single screen of platforms covered in icing, with candies scattered all over it, and the goal is simple: eat every last one of them. What stands in the way are the monsters that patrol the platforms and the hazards that each level adds, and a boy who is far better at jumping than at landing.
The game has 30 levels in five themes, and the theme changes every six levels. New kinds of monsters turn up about every second level, and each one asks for a different approach: walking monsters, fish, dinosaurs, aliens that throw balls, flames and more. You have as many tries as you like on every level.
It is the work of a single person, who designed it and wrote the code, the pictures and even the sounds. The author first sold it as a shareware game in 2005, later made a free "Deluxe" version, and in 2012 released the whole game as open source under permissive licenses.
Playing it here
This is Nikwi Deluxe built for the browser from the author's published source code. The download is about 4 MB and everything runs on your device; the game does not connect to anything. It does not save your progress, but at some levels the game gives you a password, and the Password option in the menu takes you back to that level (write it down). The game is in English and needs a keyboard. The title screen and the credits mention slashstone.com, the author's old address, which is no longer his; the game never visits it.

Tips
Air-jump. If you walk off a ledge without jumping, you can still jump once while falling. It saves many a bad landing and it is the key to finishing the later levels quickly.
Look before you leap. Landing is where Nikwi gets into trouble. Check where the next platform is before you step off, not after.
Learn the patrols. Most monsters follow the same path every time. Wait for the right moment, then go.
Restart freely. Stuck in a corner, or the last candy is out of reach? Press F6; there is no limit and no penalty.
