About the game

Progress Knight is an incremental game about a life, from beginning to end. You start at fourteen as a beggar with a few coins, and every day that passes is a tick of the clock. There is no fighting and nothing to aim: you decide what to spend your days on, and the numbers do the rest.

One job and one skill can run at the same time, each with its own progress bar. A job pays coins and slowly levels up until a better job opens: a beggar can become a farmer, a fisherman, a miner, a blacksmith and a merchant, while the military ladder runs from squire to legendary knight and the magic one from student to chairman. Skills give permanent bonuses, such as faster learning, better pay, cheaper bills or more happiness, and some unlock the next career step. In the Shop you pay rent for a better home, from a tent to a grand palace, and buy tools that speed things up, but everything you own costs coins every day, so a bigger house can also eat the income that was supposed to pay for it.

Then there is the calendar. Your lifespan is about seventy years, and at the end of it the clock stops. That is the point of the game: before you die, an amulet lets you be reborn, losing your levels and coins but keeping a multiplier for the next life, so each run goes faster than the last. Much later, a darker choice opens, with new skills and a stat called Evil.

Playing it here

Click Play. The game saves in this browser every few seconds, so you can close the page and come back later; clearing the site data erases the save, and the Settings tab has Export and Import buttons that turn the save into text you can keep. It makes no requests outside this site. The game runs in real time and keeps ticking when the tab is in the background.

Tips

Chase the multipliers first. Concentration makes every other skill level faster, so it pays to keep it running early.

Watch your net income. The sidebar shows income and expenses per day. A new home is worth buying when happiness helps more than the rent costs.

Read the "Required" lines. Each hidden job, skill or item shows what it needs to unlock, so you always know the next goal.

Do not fear death. The first rebirth is the real start. The amulet shows up in your twenties, and what you do before age 65 decides how strong your next life will be.

FAQ

Does it need to stay open? Yes, time only passes while the page is running. You can pause it, and the save is kept when you leave.

Is there an ending? Not really. The game keeps going through rebirths, with a deeper layer for the player who reaches the age of 200, which is what the late skills are for.

Can I play on a phone? It is a plain mouse game and works with taps, but the tables are wide and a computer is more comfortable.

Credits and licence

Progress Knight was made by Ihtasham (ihtasham42) and is released into the public domain under the Unlicense. It also contains HackTimer by Ruslan Tushov (MIT), which keeps the timers running in background tabs. We changed three small things: the page no longer loads a style file and an icon from other sites, the Discord block is gone, and the "Hard reset" button now erases only this game's save. The licence texts and the source code with the patch are linked from this page.
