About the game
Remote Control Shuriken is a ninja game where you do not swing a sword: you throw a shuriken and steer it. The path is a straight throw that you bend with the Control Pad and bring back with the A button, as the three tutorial screens show. A little overworld lets you walk to three bosses, a frog, a snake and an eye, and all of them are unlocked from the start, so you can fight them in any order.
The look is bright and clean, in Game Boy Color palettes, and the music was written for the game by Scotty Rich.
Playing it here
This is a homebrew game made for the Game Boy Color: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in binjgb, a Game Boy emulator compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play now and press Enter on the title screen. The author says the eye boss sometimes crashes and he could not fix it; if that happens, reload the page. F2 saves the emulator state in this browser and F4 brings it back.
Controls
| Key | Game Boy button | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Left / Right arrows | Control Pad | steer the shuriken; walk on the map |
| Up / Down arrows | Control Pad | walk on the map |
| X | A | curve the shuriken back; confirm |
| Enter | Start | start |
A few things worth knowing
Read the tutorial. It is only three screens and it explains the whole throw.
Start with the frog. It is the gentlest way to get used to curving the shuriken.
Save a state. Press F2 before a boss so you can come back with F4 if the game stumbles.
