About the game

Reversi is the old board game of capturing by flanking. Two players take turns placing discs on an 8 by 8 board, and every line of the opponent's discs you trap between your new disc and one of your own flips over to your colour. When neither side can move, the player with more discs wins.

This version plays against the computer, as black or as white, or with two people sharing the controls. The computer starts with three levels; beat it often enough and levels 4 and 5 open up. The game keeps a record of your play count and playing time.

Playing it here

This is a homebrew game made for the Arduboy, the open, credit-card-sized handheld with a tiny black-and-white screen: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in Ardens, an Arduboy emulator compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play now, then press X to choose from the title menu.

Your settings, records and unlocked levels stay in this browser automatically. F2 also saves the full state of the emulator and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too. The menus are in English.

Controls

Key Arduboy button Action
Arrow keys D-pad move the cursor; choose in menus
X B place a disc; pass when you have no move; confirm in menus
Z A open the menu during a game; turn the sound on or off in Settings
F2 / F4 — save / load the emulator state

A few things worth knowing

Corners are forever. A disc in a corner can never be flipped. The squares right next to a corner are risky, because they often hand the corner to your opponent.

Changed your mind? The in-game menu has Cancel Last Move, which takes back your last disc.

Take a break. Suspend Game keeps the position for later, and Continue on the title menu brings it back.
