About the game
Squishy is a turtle with one special trick: he can grow big or shrink small whenever he likes. Each level hides a number of his eggs, and the goal is to collect them all and reach safety.
Neither size is always better. Small Squishy moves fast and squeezes through narrow passages and portals, but piranhas bite him in the rivers. Big Squishy is slow, yet he crosses rivers safely and scares the spiders away, although the crabs see him as a meal. Most of the game is working out which size each stretch of the map needs.
Chris Parker made the game in 48 hours for the Ludum Dare 34 game jam in 2015 and later updated it for MAGFest 2018. This is that updated version.
Playing it here
This is a homebrew game made for the Game Boy: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in binjgb, a Game Boy emulator compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play now and press Enter to get past the title screens.
F2 saves the current state of the emulator in this browser and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too. The game is in English, with very little text.

A few things worth knowing
Switch size before the water. Rivers are only safe for big Squishy, so grow before you step in and shrink again once you are across.
Small is quick. When the path is clear, shrinking makes Squishy much faster.
Read the enemies. Spiders stay away from big Squishy; crabs come after him. Change size to keep the dangerous ones at bay.
Count the eggs. The top of the screen shows how many eggs you have and how many the level holds. Pausing with Enter shows your health.
