About the game
The Sunshine Policy is a small adventure game about a thirsty kingdom. The rain mill has stopped, the fields are dry and the last rainbow has vanished. Nell is the newest and most junior of the palace weather keepers, so when Dullworth, an official on the palace terrace, tells her that the weather has to be fixed, he sends her to do something that sounds reasonable and is not: fetch the horn of the last unicorn. The minister, as the game points out, has excellent weather. Something does not add up.
Everything is told through short conversations, a few rooms and a handful of objects. You walk Nell between places with the arrows at the edge of the screen, talk to the people you meet, pick up items and use them where they belong. Each location is a flat illustration in muted, warm colours: the palace terrace, the old rain mill where Iris waits, the keeper's workshop with its table and tools, and a few more to find. The state of the world changes as you act, so the mill water and the light on the roof change with your choices. The title screen says The Last Rainbow, which is how the game calls itself, while the author entered it in js13kGames 2026 as The Sunshine Policy.
Markus Fisch made it for js13kGames 2026, where the whole game had to fit in 13 KB. The drawings are the author's own, kept in a single SVG sheet, and the story, puzzles and dialogue are all part of the game's code.
Playing it here
Click Play, then "Begin the adventure". The first scene is a conversation on the palace terrace; click or press Space to read each line. After that you can explore: the line at the bottom of the screen gives a hint about what to do next, and the Help button explains the controls and offers "A gentle nudge" if you are stuck. Nothing needs the internet, and the game plays in a short sitting.

A few things worth knowing
Read the line at the bottom. It changes as you progress and often says where to go next, such as which character to visit.
Click everything. Scenes are small, and clicking each person and object is the quickest way to find out what matters.
Use the nudge. The Help screen has a hint button, so you can ask for a small push instead of looking up the answer.
