About the game
The Nibelungenlied, a medieval German epic, ends with the great treasure of the Nibelungs sunk in the Rhine, where no one has found it since. This game is about the people who went looking. You play a young knight in a pixel-art world, seen from above, who starts with a short training and then heads out for the river.
The fighting is close and simple. You have a sword, a swing that you time against the enemy's, and a dodge roll that lets you slip out of a bad spot. Treasure and items lie around the levels, and you walk over them and pick them up with a key press. The game opens with the Middle High German verses of the epic on a scroll, with the story told next to them in English, and the art and music stay in that mood.
The Treasure of the Nibelungs was made for js13kGames 2023, on the theme 13th Century, by Sebastian Dorn.

A few things worth knowing
Roll early. The dodge roll is the way out of almost every fight, so use it before you are cornered.
Take your time with the training. The first rooms teach you to walk, pick up a sword and strike, and you are not timed.
Pick up what you find. Gold and items lie around the levels, and a quick detour is usually worth it.
