About the game
Tobu Tobu Girl is a vertical arcade platformer. Your cat has drifted up into the atmosphere, and the only way to reach it is to keep climbing. Each level is a race against the clock straight up, through a sky full of enemies that are also your stepping stones.
Three moves keep you rising. Landing on an enemy bounces you upwards. A dash throws you quickly in any of eight directions, but you only have three, and you get them back by landing on an enemy. Flapping your arms gives a steady boost while your energy lasts, and dashing down into an enemy sends it crashing and recharges that energy. Chaining the three is the whole game.
Deluxe is the remastered version of the 2017 original, with full-colour graphics on the Game Boy Color and Super Game Boy support, released free and open source by Tangram Games with an original soundtrack by potato-tan.
Playing it here
This is a homebrew game made for the Game Boy: a new game by independent developers, not a commercial release. It runs here in binjgb, a Game Boy emulator compiled to WebAssembly, in its Game Boy Color version. Click Play now and press Enter at the title screen.
Unlocked levels and high scores are kept in this browser, the same way the cartridge's battery memory would keep them. F2 also saves the current state of the emulator and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too.

A few things worth knowing
Enemies are platforms. Most of the climbing comes from bouncing off heads, though some enemies are harder to bounce on than others.
Count your dashes. You have three; every enemy you land on gives them back, so dash towards the next enemy, not into empty sky.
Dive to refuel. Dashing down into an enemy knocks it away and refills part of your flapping energy.
More to unlock. Clearing levels opens new ones, from the plains through the clouds and into space, along with extras on the menu.
