About the game

Trolly Fish is an endless swimmer with a grin. Your fish stays near the left side of the screen and moves only up and down, while the sea streams past: starfish to collect for points, and a growing crowd of enemies to avoid. Bad fish swim at you in short bursts, faster ones follow later, jellyfish bob up and sink back down as they drift closer, and long eels cross the whole screen. A single touch ends the run.

What keeps you alive is the power-ups, which arrive in turn: one turns every enemy on screen into starfish, one pops them all like bubbles, one freezes them in place, one wraps you in a protective bubble, one pulls the starfish towards you like a magnet, and one gives you a spare life that is used automatically. Two more arm you: a supply of bubbles to shoot, or electric shocks that zap the fish around you for extra points.

The longer you last, the busier and faster the sea becomes.

Playing it here

This is a homebrew game made for the Arduboy, the open, credit-card-sized handheld with a tiny black-and-white screen: a new game by independent developers, not a commercial release. It runs here in Ardens, an Arduboy emulator. Click Play now and choose PLAY on the title menu.

The game does not keep scores between sessions; only the sound setting is stored, in the emulated memory of the Arduboy that this browser keeps automatically. F2 saves the complete state of the game at any moment, and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too.

This build comes from the Team-ARG-Museum archive, which removed a QR code that pointed to the team's old website, now gone. That code was all the HELP screen showed, so HELP is now empty: the controls are below.

Controls

Key Arduboy button Action
Up / down D-pad swim
X B shoot a bubble or release a shock (with those power-ups)
Z A pause and resume
F2 / F4 — save / load the state

A few things worth knowing

Watch the jellyfish. They move up and down as well as forward, so the gap that looks safe now may close a moment later.

Save the shots. Bubbles and shocks come in limited supplies. Use them on the enemy that blocks your way, not on the ones that would miss you anyway.

Eels are worth the most. Hitting one with a bubble gives the biggest bonus of any enemy.
