Zig Saber

About the game

A lone needle-shaped ship flies down a canal bored through a planet, past canyon walls, a cavern and a fortress. You have a single button, and it does two things at once: it turns the ship around and swings the sword. You cannot do one without the other, so every turn is also an attack.

The sword covers the side the ship is turning toward. A kill inside the swing is a cut: it scores triple, takes every enemy inside the swing together (doubling each time) and gives your energy back at once. It is also the only thing that opens an armoured shell. A power-up lengthens the blade in steps, which makes more of your kills cuts, but touching an enemy then costs you the power-ups instead of the ship.

Each zone is a fixed, learnable course that ends with a gate boss, and the game is the first three zones played twice, the second time at a higher rank. Beat the last gate to clear it.

Controls

A few things worth knowing

Wait for the cut. Turning early just costs you a turn: let the enemy get inside the sword's reach first.

Holding does nothing. Holding the button is the same as one press, so tap with rhythm.

Learn the zones. Each course is the same every time, so memorise where the walls and enemies come.

Questions

Why does the ship turn when I do not want it to? Because the turn and the swing are one action; plan your turns around the terrain.
