About the game

All Things Devours opens at 4:17 in the morning. You have broken into a research facility with a bomb, the guard is not far away, and you have only a few minutes to do what you came for. The status line shows the time, and every command you type moves it forward.

What happens next is best discovered by playing. The game is short, tightly built and entirely about time: what you do in one minute changes what is possible in the next, and small mistakes have consequences that only show up later.

It was written by Toby Ord under the name "half sick of shadows" for the 2004 Interactive Fiction Competition, and placed in the public domain.

A few things worth knowing

Expect to restart. The game says so itself: almost any move can leave it unwinnable, and finishing usually takes several attempts. Each failed run teaches you something.

Save often. Keep several saves at different times, not just one.

Watch the clock. The time in the status line is the most important piece of information on the screen.

Hints exist. If you are stuck for good, the author keeps a hints page at devours.amirrorclear.net.
