About the game
Andromeda Invaders is a small arcade shooter that fits in one HTML file. A fleet of bright orange ships hovers above your planet and drops boulders on it, and you slide along the bottom of the screen with a laser that fires on its own. The pulses stop both the boulders and the ships. Everything has three grades of health, shown by colour: a ship goes from bright orange to dark orange to dark red before it vanishes, and your own ship goes from bright green to dark green to dull yellow. Both sides heal slowly, so a long fight is a question of timing, not only of aim.
As a level goes on, the fleet creeps down the screen, faster the fewer ships are left. If the lowest ship reaches your row it dives straight at you, and that ends the game for both of you. Level 1 has three ships, level 2 has six, and from level 3 there are ten, with faster boulders and a quicker beat in the music up to level 20.
Susam Pal wrote the game in plain JavaScript on a canvas: even the text on screen is drawn from squares, and the sound and the chord-progression music are sine waves generated on the fly. Nothing is loaded from outside.
Playing it here
Click Play, then click once inside the game so it gets the keyboard. The game waits for the first key (a move or Space); the ship shoots without being asked, so all you do is move and choose where to stand. There are also arrow buttons under the game for touch screens, but it is best with a keyboard. Press Space to pause. Enter ends the game and shows a small screen with the name and licence of the game; press Enter again to start over. There is no high-score table.

A few things worth knowing
Shoot the boulders too. A boulder that hits you costs one grade of health, and the shots that stop it are shots that did not go at a ship. Take a ship only when the boulders near you are gone.
Watch the colours. A dark red ship is one hit from gone, and a ship heals after it has dropped ten boulders, so finish the weak ones before they recover.
Mind the lowest ship. The fewer ships are left, the faster the rest descend. Leaving one ship alive at the end of a level is the most dangerous place to be.
