About the game

Blastman is a maze game played on a grid. Fixed grey blocks make a pattern, and orange soft blocks fill most of the gaps. You drop bombs that explode a moment later in a cross shape, destroying soft blocks and any enemy (or you) in the way.

To finish a stage you must defeat every enemy and then reach the exit, which is hidden under one of the soft blocks. Some blocks drop power-ups that give you more bombs at once or a longer blast. A timer counts down in each stage.

The skill is in positioning: a bomb can trap you in a dead end if you are careless, and a chain of bombs can clear a whole corridor at once. The game assists you a little by steering you around corners. Your best score is saved in the browser.

A few things worth knowing

Plan your escape first. Before you drop a bomb, know which way you will run and how far the blast reaches.

Use chains. A bomb caught in another blast explodes too, which clears long corridors.

FAQ

Where is the exit? Under one of the orange blocks. It appears when that block is destroyed.

Credits and licence

Blastman is one of the games in LittleJS Arcade by Frank Force, and it runs on his LittleJS engine. Both are released under the MIT licence; the licence text is linked from this page. The collection's repository includes notes for AI coding assistants, so the code was written at least in part with AI help. The graphics are drawn by the code and the sounds are synthesised, so the game loads no image or audio files. The source code is on GitHub.
