About the game

Blob Goes 3D is a platformer in actual three dimensions on hardware that was never meant to do it. There is no 3D chip in the Game Boy Advance, so the game draws every flat-shaded block itself, frame by frame, and you steer a small blob through courses of platforms floating in the sky.

Each of the 15 levels is a short obstacle run to the finish block. Some platforms bounce you high, some crumble a moment after you land, ice blocks keep you sliding, moving blocks carry you across gaps and switches change the course when you trigger them. The levels you complete are remembered, so you can come back and pick any of them from the level select.

Playing it here

This is a homebrew game made for the Game Boy Advance: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in the mGBA emulator. Click Play now, then choose a level.

The game remembers which levels you have finished, and that save stays in this browser. F2 also saves the state of the emulator at any moment and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too.

Controls

Key GBA button Action
Arrow keys D-pad move (diagonals work)
X A jump; hold for a higher jump
Z B flip a switch
A / S L / R turn the camera left / right
Shift Select turn automatic camera rotation on or off
Enter Start pause
F2 / F4 — save / load the state

A few things worth knowing

Move the camera, not just the blob. Depth is hard to judge on a small screen. Turning the camera with A and S before a tricky jump shows where the next platform really is.

Hold to jump higher. A short tap gives a small hop; keeping X held gives the full jump. Small hops are safer on narrow blocks.

Do not linger on cracked blocks. Crumbling platforms give way shortly after you land on them, so keep moving.
