About the game
The Stealthy Six, a crew of cat burglars, have been caught and put away in Blueland State Penitentiary. They do not plan to stay. You play all six at once, in a top-down prison where every cell, corridor and courtyard is watched by guards on patrol.
You move one character at a time and swap between them whenever you like. Each level is a small puzzle about timing and teamwork: one burglar draws a guard away with a noise, another slips past, a third picks up a tool to unlock a door or smash through a weak wall. The level ends only when the whole crew stands on the exit tiles, so nobody gets left behind. If a guard spots a burglar, the music turns tense and a chase begins.
The game has four hand-made levels, with a short story told in newspaper clippings before the first and after the last. The first level is a tutorial: the guards and the other inmates talk you through walking, switching characters and opening doors. Your progress is remembered in your browser, so the Continue option on the title screen picks up at the last level you reached.
Playing it here
The first time you click Play the page downloads the Python runtime and the pygame library (about 23 MB), which takes a few seconds; after that a "click to start" message appears, and one more click starts the game with sound. The download is kept by your browser, so every other pygame game on the site opens faster. Nothing is loaded from other sites.
Controls
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Arrow keys | move the active character |
| Tab | switch to the next character |
| Space | pick up, drop, throw or use an item |
| Esc | pause menu (resume, reset the level, help, quit to the title screen) |
Tips
Look before you move. Guards walk fixed routes. Watch one full lap before you send anyone through its line of sight.
Use the whole crew. Most levels cannot be solved by a single burglar. Park one character as a decoy and move the others while the guard is busy.
Items are for throwing too. Anything you carry can be dropped or thrown to make a noise somewhere else.
Frequently asked questions
Does it save my progress? Yes. The game remembers the last level you reached, in your browser. Clearing the site's data erases it.
Does it work on a phone? It needs a keyboard, so it is meant for a computer.
Why does the first start take a while? The page loads Python and the game libraries. Your browser keeps them, so the next visit starts much faster.
Is it free? Yes. The game's code and artwork are dedicated to the public domain (CC0).

The version served here changes only the main loop (the browser needs it to be asynchronous), the place where progress is saved, and the Quit button on the title screen (it does nothing in a web page); the change and the original zip are linked from the Licenses page. The game runs on pygame-ce (LGPL-2.1) and CPython, whose licences and source are also linked from the Licenses page.
