About the game
Bugged Racing is a racing game for one player where the cars are bugs, in the literal and the programmer sense. You choose one of three vehicles, a round Beetlecar, a rough Buggy and a lean Bugmobile, and one of the tracks, and then drive laps against the clock. There are no rival cars: the opponent is your own best lap, which the game shows next to the current one, along with a small map of the track and a speedometer and rev counter in the corner.
The tracks have names that programmers will recognise: Infinite Loop, Rounding Error, Race Condition and Scarab. Infinite Loop is a circuit on loose dirt that curls back on itself, Race Condition is a paved loop with a dashed yellow centre line, and Scarab is a desert course. A last "Testing grounds" level holds jumps and stunts. Each car has its own weight, engine power and handling, so the same track feels different with each one.
The driving is semi-realistic and arcade at the same time. By default the car shifts gears and works the clutch for you, so you only need to steer and use the pedals. If you prefer, the settings let you switch to a manual gearbox with a clutch, change the sensitivity of the controls and adjust the cameras. There are several cameras, including views from the cockpit, and you can look behind you. The whole thing was made by one person for the GitHub Game Off 2021 jam (theme: "bug") and kept growing afterwards.
Playing it here
Click Play and wait for the page to load (about 13 MB, downloaded only when you press the button). Choose Singleplayer, pick a vehicle and a track and press Start. The game is made for a keyboard; a gamepad also works. It is a 3D game, so a reasonably recent computer is best. Your settings are kept in your browser; laps and best times are not saved.

Tips
Smooth is fast. Hard braking in the middle of a bend costs more than it saves. Slow down before the corner and get back on the throttle early.
Use the handbrake to turn. On the loose dirt of Scarab, a short tap of Space swings the back of the car round.
Try each car. The three of them differ in weight, engine power and handling, and the best car for a track is not always the fastest one on paper.
Flipped over? Press R to put the car back on its wheels.
FAQ
Is there a multiplayer mode? The original has one, over a network. It is not part of this version, because it needs a server; the game is single-player here.
Are my settings saved? Yes, in your browser. Lap times are not.
Does it work on a phone? No. It needs a keyboard and a reasonably powerful device.
