About the game

In Cat-apult the cat does not run. You fling it. A tiny black cat sits at the bottom of a room, a handful of little balls float in places that are not easy to reach, and the only tool you have is a catapult drawn with your own pointer: press, move it up and over, see the curve of the jump appear as a dotted line, let go and the cat is on its way.

The jump is where all the thinking happens. The curve starts at the cat and is pulled towards the spot where your pointer is, and the cat lands as far on the other side of that spot, horizontally, as it started from it. Move the pointer higher and the jump climbs more, move it farther away and the jump travels farther, so a good shot is a matter of picking the right point on the screen. A ball that is grabbed in mid-air gives the cat a short extra hop in the same direction, which is how one shot can end up collecting more than one. The rooms get busier as you go: spikes, bugs that patrol or circle in place, and blocks that slide to the other end every time you start a jump, so they may be a platform now and a wall later. Touch a danger and the room starts over, balls and all.

Collect every ball and the next of the nine rooms opens. The game is drawn in a tiny pixel-art style on a muted palette, with the shapes of a classic handheld, and Karthikeyan Jayakumar built it for js13kGames 2025, whose theme was "Black Cat". The whole game fit in 13 KB.

Playing it here

Click Play and then press on the game and move the pointer to aim. The jump only counts once the pointer is a little above the cat, and the dotted line stays pale until then. Letting go too low cancels the shot. When you beat the ninth room, a message says so and a click starts the game again. Nothing is saved between visits.

Controls

Input Action
press, move the pointer and release aim and launch the cat (the dotted curve shows the jump)
touch the same, with a finger

A few things worth knowing

The pointer is the aim. What matters is where the pointer is, not how long you dragged: with the pointer to the right of the cat it jumps right, and with the pointer to the left it jumps left.

Plan the sliding blocks. They move every time a jump starts, so think of each shot as also being a move for the blocks.

Use the extra hop. The little hop after a ball can carry the cat over a spike or onto a ledge that the main jump falls short of.
