About the game
Cauliflower Power is a stealth puzzle with a silly premise: in the near future cauliflower has been outlawed, and you are a new recruit of an underground front that plants it wherever it can. Each level is a small patch of land seen from above, with a few big water buckets lying around and plots marked with an X. Push a bucket onto every mark and a cauliflower sprouts there. Once all the plants have grown, the level is done.
The buckets are too heavy to lift, so you can only push them, one square at a time, and never pull. Push one into a corner and it is stuck for good. On top of that, the farms are watched. Guards stand still or walk set routes, staring straight ahead, and if you step into the line in front of one you are caught and the level starts again. Their view stops at the first thing in the way, which means a bucket, a plant or even another guard is a perfect place to hide.
There are 28 short missions, each with a line or two of briefing from your comrades, and later levels add doors that only open once you have planted enough, walking patrols and tight timing. You move one square per press, so there is always time to stop and look.
Playing it here
Cauliflower Power was made for TIC-80, a fantasy console: an imaginary 1980s-style computer with a 240 by 136 screen and 16 colours, for which independent developers write new games. Librorumque made it in 48 hours for the Ludum Dare 41 game jam, whose theme was combining two genres that do not fit together, and later polished it. It runs here in the official TIC-80 web player. Click Play and press any button on the title screen.
The levels you have unlocked are saved in this browser, so next time the game opens on a level screen where you can pick any of them. Esc opens the TIC-80 menu. A gamepad works directly, and on touch screens an on-screen D-pad and buttons appear. The game's texts are in English.

A few things worth knowing
Turn the sight lines on. Z draws a dotted line in front of every guard, showing exactly which squares they can see. It stays on until you press Z again, and it makes planning a route much easier, especially with guards who walk.
Use buckets as cover. A guard cannot see through a bucket or a plant, so pushing one into a guard's line of sight opens a safe corridor behind it. A walking guard who runs into a bucket kicks it forward, which can help you or ruin the plan.
Look before you push. A bucket pushed against a wall or into a corner cannot be moved again. When that happens, X restarts the level at once with no penalty.
