About the game
CircleRC starts with a joke and builds a game on it. You are driving a radio-controlled car, and the steering stick of your controller is broken: it is stuck, so the car can only drive in circles. You still have the throttle, and you can still pick how tight the circle is, but you can never go straight.
Every level asks you to do something that sounds simple with a normal car. Circle the flag, grab the targets, get past the enemies, and do it before the clock runs out. With a car that only turns, the answer is always the same: find the place where a circle passes through everything you need, and time your speed so the loop lands where you want. The white ring on the screen shows the circle the car is about to follow, which turns every level into a small geometry puzzle played with a throttle.
The game began as an entry for Ludum Dare 47, whose theme was "stuck in a loop", and the author kept improving it afterwards: there are 20 levels, achievements, an options menu and an About screen with all the credits.
Playing it here
Click Play and wait for the page to load (the game is about 40 MB before compression, and it is downloaded only when you press the button). Then use Play on the main menu, or Level Select to jump to a level. The game runs in your browser with the Godot engine in its single-threaded mode and makes no requests outside this site. A keyboard is needed.
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| W or the up arrow | speed up |
| S or the down arrow | slow down and reverse |
| A, D or the left and right arrows | steer |
| Space | stop the car |
| Esc | pause |
Tips
Watch the ring. The circle drawn on the floor is where the car will go. Plan the loop before you press the throttle.
Slow is precise. A gentle touch on the throttle gives you time to correct, and a stop with Space lets you think without losing the car.
Use the whole screen. The circle does not have to stay in one corner, so start the level by driving toward the area you want to loop.
FAQ
Is the steering really broken on purpose? Yes, it is the whole idea of the game.
Is progress saved? The game keeps its own settings and progress in your browser, so clearing site data resets them.
Is it free to share? Yes. The code is under the MIT licence, the art under CC BY 4.0, and the sounds and font under the licences listed below.
