About the game
A small green dragon sits on a patch of grass with a pile of shiny gems, and a band of red thieves wants every one of them. Each thief walks straight to the nearest gem, picks it up and runs for the edge of the screen. If a gem leaves the screen it is gone for good, and when the last one is gone the game is over.
Your job is to stop them. Move around the hoard and spit fire toward the mouse pointer: one hit is enough to take a thief down, and a thief that dies while carrying a gem drops it where it falls, so you can win it back before the next one grabs it. The waves keep coming, with one more thief each time, and a short countdown between waves is your only chance to catch your breath. Survive all the waves and the hoard is yours.
It is a tiny game with a clear idea, made in the 48 hours of Ludum Dare 58 (theme: "Collector") by one person, with hand-drawn pixel art and a sound design that, in the author's own words, uses mouth noises for the sound effects.
Playing it here
Click Play and wait for the game to load (about 10 MB, downloaded only when you press the button). Press Start on the title screen. There is no save and nothing to configure: a game lasts a few minutes, and "Try again" on the game-over screen starts a new one at wave 1. The game is played with a keyboard and a mouse and has music and sound effects.

Tips
Stand between the thieves and the gems. Thieves head for the closest gem, so the side they come from tells you where to wait.
Shoot a thief with a gem first. A thief that already carries a gem is heading out; one that has not is heading in. Kill the carrier and the gem drops back on the field.
Use the countdown. Between waves the thieves stop coming. Gather any loose gems and get back to the middle before the next group appears.
