About the game
You are the latest apprentice of the Cat School for Swordplay and Wizardry, and your first assignment is a dungeon. Each floor is a small maze of rooms: find the key that unlocks the stairs, pull levers to open doors, and fight off the monsters on the way down. A boss waits at the end.
Before you start you choose your apprentice, a sword fighter or a spellcaster, each in a fire or a water version. Between floors, the coins you pick up buy food that restores your health and heart containers that raise it.
The game was made by invertedHat in GB Studio and entered in the Game Boy Competition 2021; the author describes it as an early version of a bigger dungeon crawler.
Playing it here
This is a homebrew game made for the Game Boy Color: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in binjgb, a Game Boy emulator compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play now and press Enter on the title screen.
F2 saves the current state of the emulator and F4 brings it back. A gamepad also works.

A few things worth knowing
Key first, then stairs. The stairs to the next floor stay locked until you pick up that floor's key.
Levers open doors. If a door will not move, look for a lever and stand next to it to use it with X.
Spend your coins. Bread and meat restore health, and two heart containers add an extra heart. A full health bar matters most before the boss.
