About the game
Flooder starts with a 14 by 14 board of squares in six colours, scattered at random. The square in the top-left corner is yours. Each turn you pick a colour, and your area turns that colour, absorbing every neighbouring square that already had it. The area grows a little or a lot, depending on how well you choose.
Fill the whole board with one colour in 25 moves or fewer to win. Run out of moves and the round is lost. Either way, a new random board is one button press away, so every game is different.
The game was written in C with GBDK-2020 by Oliver Balfour and runs on Game Boy Color hardware; a cartridge version was released by the author.
Playing it here
This is a homebrew game made for the Game Boy Color: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in binjgb, a Game Boy emulator compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play now and press Enter on the title screen.
F2 saves the current state of the emulator and F4 brings it back. A gamepad also works.

A few things worth knowing
Picking your current colour is free. If you choose the colour your area already has, nothing happens and no move is spent.
Think in borders. The best colour is usually the one that touches your area along the longest edge, not the one with the most squares on the board.
Aim for the far corner. Opening a path across the board early gives you more squares to absorb with every later move.
