About the game

Geometry Blaster strips the arcade shooter down to its bones. Everything on screen is a simple shape: your ship at the bottom, rows of geometric enemies above, and their shots raining down. Shoot every enemy to clear the wave and the next formation appears with a new way of moving: pausing, reversing, dropping lower or spreading across the whole screen.

There are seven movement patterns, and once you have seen them all they come back faster. Being hit makes your ship blink for a moment instead of ending the game: this is a small game made for the Minimalist Game Jam, with no score or lives, and its author still describes it as a work in progress.

Playing it here

This is a homebrew game made for the Master System: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in Gearsystem, a Master System emulator compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play now and the first wave starts right away.

F2 saves the full state of the emulator in this browser and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too.

Controls

Key Master System button Action
Left / Right D-pad move your ship
Z / X Button 1 / 2 shoot
F2 / F4 — save / load the emulator state

A few things worth knowing

One shot at a time. A new shot only fires once the previous one has landed, so timing matters more than tapping fast.

See how far you get. With no game over, the challenge is how many cycles you can clear before the formations get too fast to keep up with.
