About the game
House Delivery is a tiny reaction game: a delivery van drives along a road that never ends, and you decide, house by house, whether to drop off a package. There is one button and one rule, and the road is not patient.
When a house comes within range, the game prints what it wants from you. "Press X!" means that this is the right house: press the button and you deliver a package, score a point and speed up. "Don't press!" means that this is the wrong one, and pressing the button makes you lose one of your three hit points. Between the houses there are signs that offer to speed you up or slow you down, marked with a question: they are optional, and it is up to you to decide if the risk is worth it. A "Nice delivery!" or "Oh no!" message tells you how you did, and the music reacts too.
The road goes faster after each success, so the window to react gets shorter and shorter. When your hit points run out, the van slows to a stop, the game shows your final score and Z starts again. A good run is a run where you keep your nerve.
Playing it here
House Delivery was made for Ludum Dare 53, the 2023 game jam whose theme was "Delivery", and it is written in Rust for the WASM-4 fantasy console: an imaginary handheld with a 160 by 160 screen, four colours, a D-pad and two buttons, for which independent developers write new games. It runs here in the official WASM-4 web runtime and is only about 9 KB. Nothing is saved.
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| X (button 1) | deliver, or accept a sign, when the prompt asks |
| Z (button 2) | play again after a game over |
| Enter | WASM-4 menu (pause, reset) |
On a phone or tablet, the WASM-4 runtime shows touch buttons on the screen.
Tips
Read the prompt. "Press!" and "Don't press!" are different houses. Look at the text before you press anything.
Do not mash. Pressing the button while the wrong house is in range costs a hit point.
Signs are a bet. Speeding up is good for a high score, but the road also gets faster, so a slow-down sign can save a run.
FAQ
How many hit points do I have? Three.
Does it get harder? Yes. The van goes faster after each delivery.
