About the game
The war is over, and someone has to put the weapons of mass destruction into deep cold storage. That someone is you, with a small jet and a contract that warns you that "damage is coming outta YOUR paycheck". The first minutes tell this story in a few lines of text over a night sky full of clouds, and then you are given control of the plane.
Flying is the whole game, and it is flown by feel: hold Up to thrust, tap Left and Right to steer, and use the missiles and the afterburner when you need them. The planes keep their momentum, so lining up a path takes planning, a bit like sliding a puck across a table. There are planes of different types in the levels, and red girders that mark the edges of the playing field. The last level tells you that the last weapon is you, and to finish the job.
It was made by Shawn M. Moore (sartak) in 48 hours for Ludum Dare 48, whose theme was "Deeper and deeper". He made the pixel art, the sound effects and the music himself, and wrote the game in JavaScript with the Phaser engine.
Playing it here
The game runs in the page and works with a keyboard or a gamepad. Click on it so that the page has the focus. It does not save. The download is about 6 MB, mostly the music. Sound starts after your first click. The story at the start can be left to play out by itself.

Tips
Tap to steer. The game itself says it: short taps on Left and Right, not a long press, give you the control you need.
Think about your momentum. A plane keeps going in the direction it was moving, so plan the turn before you reach it.
Mind the damage. The game itself points out that the damage comes out of your pay, so avoid hitting things.
Credits and licence
Jet Janitor was made by Shawn M. Moore (sartak) for Ludum Dare 48 and released under the MIT licence. The game runs on Phaser 3 (MIT); the licences of that and of the other open-source packages in the build are linked from this page, together with the source and the build script. In this version the Google Analytics code and the box with links to the author's sites were removed from the page, and the page has a policy that blocks requests outside the site.

Can I skip the story? It plays by itself for a few seconds and then lets you fly.
Does it save my progress? No.
