About the game
Moon Dragoon is a side-scrolling shooter set on the surface of the Moon, with the Earth hanging in the black sky behind you. You drive a small armed buggy along an endless grey landscape of flat stretches and bumps. Gravity is weak, so the buggy floats through every jump, and you can steer a little in the air while you aim.
Round robots in orange, purple and red come at you in groups from the sides and from above, firing purple bolts. You answer with the gun on the roof of the buggy, which points wherever the mouse points and fires while you hold the left button. Each kill adds to your score, and kills in a row build a combo that multiplies it, so staying alive and keeping the chain going is worth more than any single kill. Your buggy has a three-segment shield bar under it that recharges after a pause, and when it is gone the run ends with a game over screen that shows your score, your best combo, your kills and a table of high scores, plus a random line of dramatic last words.
The graphics are bright, clean cartoon art, the music is a set of chiptune tracks and the sounds are short and punchy. It was made in two weeks by two people for a jam, and it plays like it: one idea, done properly, in a small package.
Playing it here
Click Play and wait for the page to load (about 10 MB, downloaded only when you press the button). An intro screen waits for a key; the first time you play, a help screen then shows the keys, and Esc or Enter closes it. A mouse is needed to aim. Your high scores are kept in your browser.

Tips
Jump to stay up. The low gravity gives you a long hang time. Use it to get above bolts and to line up shots.
Keep the combo. The score of every kill is multiplied by your current combo, and every hit you take resets it to zero, so a long clean chain is worth much more than the same kills one at a time.
Aim ahead. The bolts and the robots move, so shoot where they will be.
It gets harder. As the minutes pass the robots shoot faster, but every kill is also worth more.
