About the game
It is a few minutes past six on New Year's Eve, ten minutes since you arrived at the party. At least your friends are here. Or are they still your friends? It has been so long. The evening that follows is made of conversations, small decisions and a lot of introspection, as you try to decide what to say to whom, and what you do not want to say at all.
New Year's Eve, 2019 is a sequel to Pageant and builds on the same characters, so it is better with that game fresh in mind, but it stands on its own. It plays in the same manner: short scenes, a few choices after each, and a set of numbers that your answers move and that you can check under Status. The hours of the party pass as you choose, and where you spend them shapes what you learn.
Autumn Chen wrote it between 2019 and 2022 with her Dendry-based tools, using her own memories of family gatherings between 2015 and 2019.
Playing it here
Click Play now and then Start game. Everything is done by clicking. Status, at the top, shows the numbers the game keeps; Save/Load has eight slots, and Quick Save and Quick Load, at the bottom, use one more. Options turns animations on or off. The author's release has backgrounds photographs and character art, which are not included here, so the game runs as plain text on a flat background.
A few things worth knowing
Content note. Strong language, drinking, family conflict, questions of identity and a teen romance with a kiss. Nothing is explicit.
Play Pageant first if you can. It is also on this site.
