About the game

Five tall grey poles stand side by side, joined by short blue rungs that scroll upward as you fall. A small runner slides down one of the poles, and a red enemy climbs up another. If you touch an enemy, the game is over.

The runner does not turn on its own: it goes straight down its pole until you press the button. While the button is held, it moves four times as fast, and if there is a rung beside it, it steps across along the rung to the next pole. So holding is the only way to change poles, and it makes you fast at the very moment you should be careful. Let go to slow down and keep to your pole.

Every enemy leaves a trail of small yellow dots behind it. Run over them to collect them: each dot scores your current multiplier, which then goes up by one. The multiplier drops by one every time an enemy leaves through the top of the screen, so the dots are worth chasing, but they are also exactly where the enemies are.

Not Turn is one of the mini-games that Kenta Cho, who works as ABA Games, makes with his crisp-game-lib library. There are no image or sound files: the graphics are drawn by the code, and the sound effects and music are generated while you play.

A few things worth knowing

Switch early. You can only turn when a rung is right beside you, so plan a pole or two ahead.

Follow the dots. The trail shows exactly where the enemy came from, which also tells you which poles are clear.

Do not hold by reflex. Holding makes you fast, which is great when the way is clear and a disaster when an enemy is just ahead.
