About the game

The map is a scatter of planets, each with a number: the ships stationed there, growing steadily over time. You own some of them, the computer owns others and a few are neutral. Drag from one of your planets to any other to send a fleet, and when it arrives it fights whatever is there. If your ships outnumber the defenders, the planet becomes yours and starts building ships for you.

It is a race of timing and arithmetic. Send too few ships and the attack fails; send too many and you leave your own planet open. The wheel (or keys 1 to 4) sets what share of a planet's ships goes out. Capture every planet before the computer captures yours. There are difficulty levels, and the match can be restarted at any time.

A few things worth knowing

Grab the small neutrals first. They cost few ships and start producing at once.

Send more than you need. Defenders keep growing while your fleet is in flight.

Do not strip a planet bare. An empty planet is an easy target for the computer.

Credits and licence

Orbit Swarm is one of the games in LittleJS Arcade, a collection by Frank Force built on his open-source LittleJS engine and released under the MIT licence. The pictures are drawn in code and the sounds are synthesised, so the game has no image or audio files. The author's repository includes AI-assistant guidance files, so the collection was written with the help of AI tools. The licence text is linked from this page and the source code is on GitHub.
