About the game
Parallaxia is a vertical-scrolling shooter in the bullet-hell tradition. Waves of ships fly in formation, weave across the screen and fill it with patterns of bullets, and a ground of panels, hidden targets and cores scrolls by underneath. The sectors never end: every fifth one has a boss with wings that can be shot off separately, and each lap through ten sectors raises the rank.
Before you start you pick one of three modes, and the mode decides how the score multiplier (up to x16) climbs. In CHAIN you raise it by wiping out whole formations without letting any ship escape, in CLOSE by shooting at point-blank range, and in GRAZE by skimming past enemy bullets. The ship is fast and the shot is a wide twin cannon, but only four shots can be on screen at once, so being close to an enemy also means firing faster.
The lock-on laser is the other half of the game: hold the fire button and the ship locks onto large enemies, boss parts and ground cores, up to four at a time, then release to send a laser at each of them.
Playing it here
Click Play, then press Z, Space or Enter on the title screen to start. Left and right pick the mode and up and down pick the starting sector among the ones you have already reached. High scores are kept per mode in your browser only. Nothing is sent anywhere.

A few things worth knowing
Pick the mode first. CHAIN has fast, sparse bullets and a fast ship; the other two are denser, so start with CHAIN if you are new.
Let the formation come. In CHAIN, a ship that escapes breaks the chain, so shoot the whole line before moving on.
Lock on for the big ones. Hold the button near a boss, collect up to four locks, then release: the lasers hit harder when fired together.
Questions
Does it need a controller? No. Keyboard, mouse or touch drag all work, and a gamepad is read as well.
Why does the screen scroll sideways? The field is a bit wider than the screen and follows your ship left and right. Enemies off screen do not shoot.
