About the game

Poitto is a small ghost in a world drawn in thin white outlines. Each stage is one screen, and in each one you have to walk and jump from where you start to the goal on the other side. The first stage is a tutorial that only asks you to walk to the right; after that it starts to bring in the things that make it a puzzle.

Blocks you can stand on and bump against, springs that throw you high, arrows that push you in a direction, enemies that patrol the floor and switches that turn groups of blocks on and off are all mixed from stage to stage, and the author's own names for the stages, which you can read in the source code, give an idea of what each one is about: a jump and goal tutorial, a simple enemy, a jump with a switch, a switch maze, a runaway, a timer, an enemy maze, a stage about red and blue blocks. There are sixteen stages in total, and a Clear! screen between them.

inajob, who made Apprentice Wizard as well, released Poitto for the Arduboy in 2017.

Playing it here

This is a homebrew game made for the Arduboy, the open, credit-card-sized handheld with a tiny black-and-white screen: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in Ardens, an Arduboy emulator. Click Play now and press Z on the title screen; after a short Ready count the stage begins.

The game keeps no records, but F2 saves the complete state of the emulated console at any moment and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too.

Controls

Key Arduboy button Action
Left / right D-pad walk
Z A jump
Z A move on from the title and Clear! screens
F2 / F4 — save / load the state

A few things worth knowing

The first stage is empty on purpose. It only teaches you to walk to the goal on the right; the stages after it are the ones that add things.

Switches flip groups. A switch turns a whole group of blocks on or off, so stepping on one can open a path and close another.

Use the springs. A spring throws you much higher than a normal jump, and usually points to a place you cannot reach otherwise.
