About the game

Psi Colo is a puzzle game about rolling dice. The board is a grid of seven by five squares, and every die on it can be tipped over one square at a time. Each roll changes which face points up, so moving a die is also choosing its number.

The rule that makes it work is simple: a group of touching dice that all show the same number sinks into the board when the group is at least as big as that number. Two 2s are enough; a 5 needs five. While a group is sinking you can still roll more matching dice into it to extend the chain and multiply the points. The 1s have their own trick: roll a 1 next to a group that is sinking, and every 1 on the board goes down with it.

In the endless mode new dice keep rising out of the floor, faster as the levels go up, and the game ends when the board is full. The time-limited mode gives you three minutes for the best score, and the puzzle mode is a set of 40 fixed problems to clear in a limited number of moves.

Playing it here

This is a homebrew game made for the Arduboy, the open, credit-card-sized handheld with a tiny black-and-white screen: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in Ardens, an Arduboy emulator. Click Play now and use the menu on the title screen.

The game remembers its records in the emulated memory of the Arduboy, and that is kept in this browser automatically. F2 also saves the complete state of the game at any moment, and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too.

Controls

Key Arduboy button Action
Arrow keys D-pad move the cursor
X + arrow B + D-pad roll the die under the cursor
Z A in-game menu (continue, restart, puzzle list)
X B choose in menus
F2 / F4 — save / load the state

A few things worth knowing

Think in faces, not squares. Rolling a die two squares in the same direction turns it upside down; rolling it around a corner gives you the side faces. Plan the route by the number you want on top.

Feed the sinking groups. A group that is already going down still accepts matching dice, and every addition raises the chain bonus.

Save the 1s. A single 1 next to a sinking group clears every 1 on the board, which is the best way out of a crowded endless game.
