About the game
Rainwormhole is a puzzle platformer built around two portals and one very particular unicorn. Her horn opens a cold blue portal and her tail opens a warm orange one. When both are open, a rainbow stretches between them, and you can step into one end and come out of the other with your speed intact. The rain never stops, the sky is dark, and the only bright things in a room are the rainbow and the treasure chest waiting at the exit.
The catch is how the portals work. They only stick to cloud blocks; stone shrugs them off. The horn can aim only in front of her and the tail only behind, so to place both ends of a tunnel you often have to turn the unicorn around first. A shot that misses, or lands on stone, pops the portal that limb had already opened. Speed carries through and grows a little with every trip, so looping a portal pair is sometimes the only way to get over a wide gap.
Twenty-one rooms teach the rules without a single line of help text. Early ones are about walking into a portal instead of falling into it. Later rooms add a cube that you can carry and drop on a button, a heavy anvil, prism curtains that wipe portals off, pits of black ink, shades that patrol the floor and lasers that bend through your tunnels. A lit laser receiver keeps its gate open for good.
cuneytinann made Rainwormhole for js13kGames 2026, where the whole game, zipped, had to fit in 13 kilobytes. The picture, the rain and every sound are made by code while you play.
Playing it here
Click Play, then click inside the game and start with room 1/21. Move with the keys, aim with the mouse and fire with the two buttons: when you point outside what the horn or the tail can reach, that limb fades, which tells you the shot will not work. The room restarts instantly with R. Nothing is saved between visits.

A few things worth knowing
Turn around. If the spot you want is behind the unicorn, run one step the other way. The horn and the tail swap sides, and most rooms depend on it.
Walk in, don't drop in. A portal on a wall takes you through if you walk into it, and speed from a long fall makes a good run-up for the next jump.
A missed shot costs a portal. Take a second to look before you click: a shot onto stone removes the portal that limb already had open.
